Xiaowen gave her thesis defense today. Her talk went very well, and most importantly we celebrated with cake and champagne (see obligatory ceiling tile indentation). Now just a little more paperwork, and we have to start calling her "Dr. Zhuang". Congratulations, Xiaowen!

Matthew made his yearly visit to the Ion Channels course at Cold Spring Harbor. The new faculty running the course did, as the faculty before, a great job. It was great to work with this year's set of students, and help them learn about patching in slices. Some of them talked about their work, to the group or to Matthew. They are headed for great things!

Moses was selected by the College of Arts and Sciences to give the student address at the big Commencement ceremony (picture courtesy of Doug Levere). Moses spoke about how UB helped get him excited about research. But he put in a plug for his old lab! He could have said what great results he got with us. Oh, well. It is a real honour to have been chosen to give this speech, and a real accomplishment to have kept his cool in front of so many people. We wish him the best!
